Distance Checkoff Challenge
Alexandria Masters will be incorporating a Distance Checkoff Challenge into Saturday morning workouts over the next few weeks. The challenge is to swim the 5 "toughest" pool events (400/800/1500 freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 400 IM). The team will provide you the option of tracking your progress on the team website records page. To report your results, please send an email to checkoffchallenge@alexandriamasters.com.

Summer Triathlon Resuls
DC TRIATHLON
Congratulations to Michelle Wright, Emily Kujawa, Frank Donnelly, Dan Jent, and Drew Killian for their races in the inagural DC Triathlon on June 20. In the Sprint event, .8K swim, 20K bike, and 6.7K run, Emily finished 80 out of 1141 overall, and 2/167 in her age group. Frank finished 647 of 1141, and 423/613 in his age group. Dan finished 125, and 33/140 in his age group. Drew finished 26 overall, and 6/140 in his age group.

In the Olympic event, 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run, Michelle finished 271 of 834 overall, and 6 of 50 in her age group.

Join the Summer's Virtual Swim Around Crater Lake
This summer's virtual swim begins now, and will last the entire summer season. The 34-mile distance represents the swim around Crater Lake, Oregon. Send in the workout distances you swim, and a running total will be kep on the virtual swim log, posted on our web site records page.

Spring Virtual Swim Completed
Congratulations to Mike Davey and Michelle Wright who where the only two swimmers to complete the spring season's 28.5 mile virtual swim around Manhattan. Final results are posted on the records page.

Nationals Meet Report
Congratulations to Mark Harris, who solely represented the team at the USMS Nationals meet in May. Mark finished with two team records in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, and one team personal best record in the 100 freestyle.

National Top Ten Congratulations
Once again, we congratulate Drew Killian for swimming onto the USMS national short course meters top ten list in 2009. Drew swam to 7th place in the 50-m breaststroke, and 6th place in the 200-m breaststroke.

Zone Championship Results
The Colonies Zone Short Course Yards Championship meet for swimmers in the northeast was held on the weekend of April 25 at George Mason University. Overall, Alexandria Masters finished 11th of 45 small teams with the help of some strong swimgs by team members.

Andy Burnett set a personal best in the 100 breaststroke, and swam within one second of his personal bests in his four other events. Mark Harris's first place in the 50-breaststroke was good for a new team record, as was his 100 and 200 breststroke. Larry Clark was second in his 100-yd freestyle swim. Mike Davey broke team records in the 500 freestyle and 50 breaststroke, with the latter a personal best time.

Summer Schedule Posted
The summer swimming sworkouts began on Tuesday, June 1. All workouts will be held at local outdoor pools: Little Hunting Park, Virginia Hills, Waynewood, and Hollin Hills. The summer workout schedule is linked from the web site schedule page. Be sure to watch the calendar page for changes to the schedule due to the pool swim meets.

Tropical Splash Success
Despite a snow storm the day before the meet, this year's Tropical Splash saw a large number of swimmers show up on Sunday January 31. A total of 16 Alexandria Masters swimmers entered the meet, slightly lower than last year, but were able to assemble four medley relays. In addition to the swimmers, 29 team members participated in working at the meet, and a similar number baked or donated items for the hospitality room. Results are posted on hte meet page.
