Evening Workout Dinner
Join us for after the last workout of the season on Tuesday night, May 20. We will meet at Wingstop, 8723 Cooper Road at the corner of Richmond Highway at 8:45 PM. Wingstop serves wings and sides.

Open Water Swimming Clinic
After the workout on Saturday, May 17, we will present a video about participation in open water swims . This will be a good opportunity to receive some instruction and tips for open water participants and triathletes. The clinic is open to all swimmers participating this season. 9:30-10:30 AM.

USMS National Championship Results
Congratulations to Chio Hatakeyma for her swimming at the USMS Nationals at the beginning of May. Chio broke team records in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly in the process. She also finished 2nd in the meet in the 50 breaststroke, and 6th in both the 100 and 200 breast.

First Open Water Swim Results
One of the area's first open water swims and triathlons was held on the Nanticoke River in Maryland on May 3. Team members Colleen Kersgard and Karen Garth completed the 3 mile swim. Colleen finished 3rd in her age group, and Karen 4th in her age group. Also of note, Virginia Masters member Chris VanHorne who attends our swimming workouts, finished 2nd in his age group, and 13th of 62 overall.

Open Water Swimming - Tiathlete Forum
The Alexandria Masters Discussion Board now has a forum for open water swimmers and triathletes on the team. A separate forum was created to allow these swimmers to post results, competition information, and coordinate ride sharing to the summer events which are often held outside of the immediate DC area.

Colonies Zone Meet Produces New Records
Several team members entered the annual regional Colonies Zone Short Course Yards swim meet held in April at George Mason University. Overall, the team finished fourth out of 40 small teams entered in the meet. Six swimmers broke records starting with Katie McWilliams's four team records in the 50, 100, 500, and 1000 freestyle events. She also broke her personal record in the 200 free. Erica Verdin set team records in the 100 backstroke and 100 IM. And Chio Hatakeyama set new records in the 50 back and 50 butterfly.

An equal number of men also set new team benchmarks. Matt McCready set personal bests in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back. Dan Jent broke a long standing record in the 100 freestyle, and Larry Clark set a new personal record in the 1000 free.

Potomac Virtual Swim Completion
Congratulations to Stan Cirton for being the first person to complete the Virtual Swim Along the Potomac in March. Stan received a meet tee shirt for being the first man to complete the swim. Colleen Kersgard also received a shirt for being the first women to finish. To date, Chris Van Horne, Jon Wood, Dave Tomblin, Ray Novitske, Ashley Rader, and Matt McCready have also completed the swim.

The deadline is extended through the end of the season. Daily distances completed after each workout to: alexandriamasters@verizon.net.

National Top Ten Short Course Meters
Congratulations to Chio Hatakeyama for swimming her way to ten top times in the nation for 2007. During the past year, Chio turned in the 2nd best time in the 50 breaststroke, 3rd best in the 100 free, 100 & 200 breast, 4th in 100 IM and 50 free, 5th in 200 free, 6th in 50 back, 7th in 400 free, and 8th in 50 fly.

One Hour Postal Swim
Congratulations to Katie McWilliams, Dave Tomblin and Chio Hatakeyam for completing the One Hour Postal Swim in January. Katie finished with 5,000 yards, Dave completed 3,000 yards, and Chio 4425.
