Distance Checkoff Challenge

Alexandria Masters will be incorporating a Distance Checkoff Challenge into Saturday morning workouts over the next few weeks.  The challenge is to swim the 5 "toughest" pool events (400/800/1500 freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 400 IM).  The team will provide you the option of tracking your progress on the team website records page.  To report your results, please send an email to checkoffchallenge@alexandriamasters.com.

Summer Triathlon Results

DC TRIATHLON - Congratulations to Michelle Wright, Emily Kujawa, Frank Donnelly, Dan Jent, and Drew Killian for their races in the inagural DC Triathlon on June 20. In the Sprint event, .8K swim, 20K bike, and 6.7K run, Emily finished 80 out of 1141 overall, and 2/167 in her age group. Frank finished 647 of 1141, and 423/613 in his age group. Dan finished 125, and 33/140 in his age group. Drew finished 26 overall, and 6/140 in his age group. 
In the Olympic event, 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run, Michelle finished 271 of 834 overall, and 6 of 50 in her age group.

The Colonies Zone Short Course Yards Championship meet for swimmers in the northeast was held on the weekend of April 25 at George Mason University. Overall, Alexandria Masters finished 11th of 45 small teams with the help of some strong swimgs by team members. 
Andy Burnett set a personal best in the 100 breaststroke, and swam within one second of his personal bests in four others. Mark Harris's first place in the 50-breaststroke set a team record, as did his 100 and 200 breststroke. Larry Clark was second in his 100-yd freestyle swim. Mike Davey set new team record in the 500 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, with the latter a personal best time.

Open Water Swim Clinic

An open water swim clinic will be held on Sunday April 25 at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, MD. Coach Dominic will go over entering the water, spotting while swimming and have an hour long open water workout. There will be 2 lifeguards in the water in kayaks leading and trailing the pack. Safety is our priority.
Muffins, fruit, and coffee will be provided before and during the event. 
Please have a wet suit. The water temperature is still very cold. It will be a very short swim for anyone not wearing proper gear. Please bring 2 or more towels and a warm change of clothing.  Contact Coach Dominic for questions or comments.

New Records Set at Tropical Splash

Alexandria Masters entered 17 swimmers in our own Traopical Spalsh, and set our share of records in the meet. Starting off for the women, new team records were set in the 200 IM by Katie Gilmore, 100 backstroke by Linda Wentz, 50 free by Genie McCreery, 100 IM by Lisa Coakley, and 500 free by Laurie Grubbs. In addition, Christi Ensch set a personal record in the 100 free. Linda's backstroke was also a meet record, as was Lisa's 100 freestyle. For men, team records fell with Mark Harris in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke, and Doug Masterson in the 100 free and 100 IM. Personal records were set by Matt Lindsey in 100 free, breast, and IM, and Jack Fannon in 500 free and 100 IM. A new 45+ men's relay record with Mark, Doug, Murray Rapp, and Keith Perkins was set. Mark's breaststokre and Murray Rapp's 400 IM also set meet records.

Tropical Splash Success

Despite a snow storm the day before the meet, this year's Tropical Splash saw a large number of swimmers show up on Sunday January 31.  A total of 16 Alexandria Masters swimmers entered the meet, slightly lower than last year, but were able to assemble four medley relays. In addition to the swimmers, 29 team members participated in working at the meet, and a similar number baked or donated items for the hospitality room.
