Coaching and admission to the pool facilities are provided for the seasonal fee. Summer session began Tuesday, June 1, and runs to September 11, but you can join in the summer program at any time during the summer. There are weekday morning, weekday evening, and Saturday morning workouts to choose from in three different pool locations. You attend any of the workouts you want to. Be sure to check the calendar page for last minute schedule changes.
Fees & Registration
There are two fees for swimming in the program. First, you must join (or already be registered with) US Masters Swimming in order to regularly swim with us. To register for US Masters Swimming with our team, register online with your credit card, or complete a 2010 registration form and send it in or return it to a team representative or coach. The US Masters registration fee is paid to "Potomac Valley LMSC".
Since Alexandria Masters does not charge team dues, members of other Masters teams or unattached US Masters members are welcome to swim with us.
Second, the Summer season is $130 and paid to Alexandria Masters Swimming. This covers our coaching, pool rental, and special programs throughout the season. Swimmers wishing to average one workout a week for the season pay $70. These fees are prorated at the end of each month to reflect the remaining time in the season. And, any members of the four pools we use in the summer receive a 30% discount off their fee.
Payments can be made by check submitted to a coach or board member (payable to 'Alexandria Masters Swimming') or online by credit card.
Swimming Program
Workouts consist of a variety of swimming distances and speeds assigned by the coach. The intensity, difficulty, and distances in the workout are based on swimming abilities. Swimmers are grouped by lane according to their abilities. Besides swimming, workouts consist of kicking, pulling, stroke and technique drills, breathing drills, speed drills, and swim pacing. One hour workouts vary from 1000-1800 total yards for less experienced swimmers to 2500-3600 total yards for the more experienced.
Try It Once
Interested swimmers are invited to swim with us free for one workout. Drop by one of the workouts. Registered US Masters swimmers visiting from out-of-town are welcome - let us know you are coming so we can arrange admission to the pool.
