Workout Schedule
Our workouts are divided into seasons of 3-4 months each.
The winter spring season began January 28 and runs to May 23. There are weekday morning,
weekday evening, and Saturday morning workouts to choose from in three different pool locations. You attend
any of the workouts you want to.
The 2008
summer schedule has recently been finalized. Workouts begin June 2 and run through September 6.
Fees & Registration
There are two fees for swimming in the program. First, the seasonal team fee for the remainder of the swimming the season is $56 and is paid to "Alexandria Masters Swimming". This covers your admission to the pool, coaching, and special programs throughout the season. Swimmers wishing to average one
workout a week for the remaining season pay $28. These fees will be prorated at the end of every month.
Second, you must join (or already be registered with) US Masters Swimming in order to regularly swim with us. The US Masters Swimming registration for 2008 is $37. To register for US Masters Swimming with our team, complete a 2008 registration form and send it in or return it to a team representative or coach. The US Masters registration fee is paid to "Potomac Valley LMSC". Since Alexandria Masters does not charge team dues, members of other teams or unattached US Masters members are welcome to swim with us.
Swimming Program
Workouts consist of a variety of swimming distances and speeds assigned by the coach. The intensity, difficulty, and distances in the workout are based on swimming abilities. Swimmers are grouped by lane according to their abilities. Besides swimming, workouts consist of kicking, pulling, stroke and technique drills, breathing drills, speed drills, and swim pacing. One hour workouts vary from 1000-1800 total yards for less experienced swimmers to 2500-3600 total yards for the more experienced.
Saturday morning workouts have long-distance workout lanes available for swimmers training for triathlons and long-distance swims. Tuesday night workouts emphasize sprint training and conditioning.
We also conduct several clinics during regular workouts throughout the season. These include underwater video recording and analysis, video stroke instruction, starts and turns, and training/nutrition.
Try It Once
Interested swimmers are invited to swim with us free for one workout. Drop by one of the workouts.
Masters swimmers visiting from out-of-town are welcome - let us know you are coming so we can arrange admission to the pool.
